2018

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Since 1989, Pacific Rim Magazine (PRM) has connected geographically disparate readers across the Pacific through stories of art, socioeconomics, gastronomy, technology, health, and well-being that honour both cultural diversity and shared experiences. The publication  acknowledges the responsibility to future generations by focusing on community issues, environmental concerns, and social transitions.

When I joined the team at PRM, the magazine had produced 30 issues, received over 12 awards, and was distributed annually to all Globe and Mail subscribers.

PROCESS

I was appointed to manage the artistic vision of PRM, working closely with the Art Department to establish the publication’s overall look, style, and feel. As the team leader, I delegated projects to a team of graphic designers and layout/production artists after developing artistic concepts with the magazine’s Art and Editorial teams. Additionally, I reviewed graphic materials to assess their effectiveness and suitability for the publication, which helped maintain a visual consistency and quality across all graphic deliverables.

Beyond my role as Art Director and graphic designer, I wrote the cover story for the magazine on accessibility of transgender health care in British Columbia and participated in the editing process of the magazine. Following the print production of the magazine, I guided the UI design of Pacific Rim Magazine online.

SUCCESSES

At the 2018 College Media Association Pinnacle Awards PRM was honoured with a handful of distinctions. The online format of the magazine received 1st place for Website of the Year, my advertisement for Qmunity placed 3rd for Best Advertisement, and I was given an Honourable Mention in the Best Magazine Cover category for my transition illustration.
