The cover and layout design for faux magazine, Margin Style and Culture, emanated from a fascination with the textiles and burgeoning creative culture in Western Africa. The varied use of fabrics, such as Adinkra and Kente cloth, to the stunning application of repetitive pattern. Cities like Accra, Lagos, and Dakar are fashion capitals that march to the beat of their own drum. These fashion capitals are refreshing and inspiring in a globalized world.
Awe-struck by the creative culture in West Africa, I sought to create a fashion spread that paid homage. Using the colour palettes of the garments, a curated assortment of photos from Unsplash, and the use of elegant type, I was able to let my research stimulate my design.
